Herättäjäjuhlat III: Offerings

In the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland it is common to give offerings. at Herättäjäjuhlat festival the offerings are also gathered. You can pay with cash or with modern phone apps. The offerings are the basis of the Awakening movement’s economy.

The Herättäjäjuhlat festival is the annual gathering of the movement. Once considered very pietist, the Awakening is now considered mainstream movement amongst Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland. For example It has liberal attitudes towards sexual minorities and accepts women as pastors.

The festival is the second largest religious gathering in Finland attracting around 30000 visitors each year.
