Traction Engine Whistle

Traction Engine – Whistle

A traction engine is a steam engine used mainly in agriculture for driving farm machines, and in particular threshing machines. Traction engines were commonly in use from the mid-19th century to the end of World War One, after which they were increasingly replaced by tractors.
This traction engine was manufactured in 1903 in Linz, Austria. It was used in Prekmurje (eastern part of Slovenia) until the 1960’s. When acquired by the Technical Museum of Slovenia, it was in need of thorough renovation. Following restoration and conservation work it was ready for display and working demonstrations.

Traction Engine whistle: The whistle signifies that the steam engine is ready to run and that the threshing can begin.
