Hammer Stone Stonecutter

Stonecutter

The craft of stonemasonry (or stonecraft) has existed since humanity could use and make tools - creating buildings, structures, and sculpture using stone from the earth.

This sound recording is from making patterns on a floor block.
-On a good day I hit 12 000 strokes, says the stonecutter and continue. You have a lot of time to think when you work as a stonecutter. One stroke every three seconds with a hammer that weights 900 grams. No need for the gym!

Recorded at Borghamns Stenförädling AB, Borghamn, a family business founded in 1951.
The company is quarrying limestone and Kolmården marble.
“We have a unique craftsmanship with two active stonemasons to ensure a good quality even when it comes to advanced stone masonry work”, from company webpage.
