binaural cable car Odra River Transport Wrocław

A ride in Polinka cable car (binaural)

The sound of Polinka cable car in Wrocław. The recording was made inside a gondola that covers a distance of 380 meters from the station at ul. Na Grobli to the station on Wybrzeże Wyspiańskiego. The cable car travels at a height of about 7 meters and passes over the Odra river. Two gondolas go above the river, each can carry up to 15 persons. Polinka has a load capacity of up to 370 persons per hour. During the ride you can see the Grunwaldzki Bridge, a house on the water, and Ostrów Tumski in the background. From the east the Politechnika boulevard and the water tower are visible. The cable car was made by Wrocław University of Technology.

The recording was made using a binaural microphone. It is a recording technique which features two microphones located at the height of the recording person’s ears. It enables precise spatial location of recorded acoustic signals and thus creates a sound illusion of being in the place where the recording was made. To get the right effect, we recommend listening to the recording in headphones.
