Grinding Nuts Potica

Grinding nuts with a hand grinder

Potica is probably the most popular traditional Slovenian pastry, and in the past was made to celebrate high festivals, including Christmas. According to a folk saying, nowhere in the whole world has anything better than potica!
Simply, potica is a pastry made of yeast dough spread with different fillings (nuts, poppy seeds, tarragon, honey…) and then rolled up. One of the most popular is the nut roll. Before we start making it however, we need to crack nuts and then grind them.
Sound: Grinding nuts with a hand grinder. The grinder in the video has been used by several generations of housewives from the village of Trata near Velesovo.
