On this recording a needle loom can be heard in operation. The needle loom was built in the 1980s and is now a part of the LWL-Industrial Museum's collection. This machine is equipped with a duplex bobbin creel and was used for the production of medium-heavy-duty belts. The needle loom can weave up to a width of 85 mm. It was built in the Maschinenfabrik Frick in Switzerland by the company Jürgen Müller AG.
The loom possesses two gears in which as many as 12 shafts can be woven. Each gear is arranged with 9 shafts for the purpose of weaving belts. At the bottom in the back of the narrow machine, an electric motor is installed. The position of the switch box is on the right side in the back. The machine belonged to the former Bielefelder Textilfachschule (textile vocational school) and was acquired through the Stadtmuseum Bielefeld (municipal museum of Bielefeld).
The main sounds are the electric motor and the up and down motions of the “shafts”.
