1960s cross winder fabric textiles weaving plant yarn

ZK-6 cross winder

The sound of winder in operation was recorded in the Central Museum of Textiles in Łódź (Poland).
Winder is an auxiliary device used in the process of manufacturing knitted fabrics. It is applied for the winding of yarn in order to change its structure into cross-cylindrical one. The yarn wound in this way may then be transported into the crochet machine, where knitted fabric is performed.
The winder was manufactured in “Wifama” Textile Machines Plant in Łódź in 1964. Although in the Central Museum of Textiles the machine is displayed as an independent device, winders used to operate in segment arrangement, several machines placed side by side.
