Railway Roller Tube

Boiler tube roller

The sound: The belt drive spins the chuck holding the expander. On the opposite side of the machine, a vice holds the boiler tube and the end heated to red-hot, is pressed against the rotating expander by means of a screw mechanism operated by a handle.
This powered machine is used in locomotive boiler manufacture, for forming the boiler tube and allowing the expansion/contraction of the rolled tube. It was manufactured by Alfred H. Schütte Köln-Deutz between the two world wars. It is located in the former forgery of the old locomotive workshops in Ljubljana and still used for maintenance of the museum steam locomotives.
