Bell bell foundry craftsman craftsmanship Grinding

Bell foundry – cutting the bell’s lower edge

The sound of cutting and polishing of the lower edge of the bell. The recording was realized in Felczyńscy Bell Foundry in Taciszów (Poland).

The recording presents one of the final stages of producing a bell. After three days from casting, the bell is dug out of the casting pinhole. The clay mold is crashed, and the cast is cleaned. The metal is polished with electric grinding machines.

Bells in the Felczyńscy Bell Foundry are produced with foundry methods, practiced from Renaissance. Any modernizations are connected with application of electric tools that stir the clay and polish the bells. The first Bell Foundry in the Felczyńscy family was established in 1808. Since then, the intergenerational transfer of craftsman traditions has taken place.
